SBB-BirdPhotography is a place to discuss things of interest to the birdwatchers to do photography here in Silicon Valley.
We recommend that you observe the postings on the list for a while in order to get an idea of the flavor of the group. When you do choose to post a message to the list, we request that you provide a relevant subject line.

I want us to create a place for everyone to share and benefit from each other's knowledge.
- Good photo locations, especially for tough species
- Discussions of equipment, technique and composition
- Scheduling group shoots, deciding to get together to talk and shoot, choosing a location and shooting it as a group project
- We want to encourage photographers to put their photos "up on the altar", so to speak, and give the group a chance to comment, criticize and suggest on them
- Shooting etiquette and making the tradeoff between what's best for the bird and its environment and getting the shot
[edit] This encourages the proper treatment of our subjects and their environment
People who are members of this group are asked to abide by the ABA PRINCIPLES OF BIRDING ETHICS. If we get evidence of a member violating the birding ethics guidelines or abusing their subject or the environment in search of a shot, that'll be considered grounds for removal from this group.
A critical goal of this group should be the education of society in the need to support and improve our environment for the betterment of birds though the use of photography -- and we can't do that if we don't start with our own behavior.

[edit] Bay Area Bird Photographers Interest Group
Co-sponsored by the City of Palo Alto and the Santa Clara Valley Audubon Society, the Bay Area Bird Photographers is a group dedicated to fostering bird photography here in Silicon Valley. While this list isn't formally affiliated with the group, we support the same goals and we fully support the organization, and encourage people interested in this list to also look at joining the group. It meets once a month at the Lucy Evans Baylands Interpretive Center in Palo Alto with discussion and a presentation by a member. More information on the next meeting can be found on the BABP page on the Santa Clara Valley Audubon site.
